Need to Know Before Your Trip

Prepare for Your Lake Michigan Fishing Charter

We want your time aboard the Rack Em Up II to be stress-free and enjoyable from start to finish. To help you get ready, here’s a detailed guide covering what’s included, what to bring, when to arrive, and what to leave at home. A little preparation goes a long way toward making your Muskegon fishing charter unforgettable.

What’s Included in Your Charter

Every trip with Rack Em Up Sport Fishing is designed to make fishing simple, fun, and successful. We provide everything you need to focus on reeling in the action.

Included with all charters:

  • Rods, reels & tackle: Quality gear suited for Lake Michigan salmon and trout fishing.
  • Lures & bait: Proven setups selected by Captain Dan for the day’s conditions.
  • First mate assistance: Your mate sets lines, nets fish, and keeps everything running smoothly.
  • Catch cleaning & filleting: At the end of your trip, we clean and fillet your fish so they’re ready for cooking or freezing.

Note: Trip pricing does not include tips. A customary gratuity for the first mate is 20–25% of the trip rate.

When to Arrive

Timing is everything on the water. We aim to launch when the fish are biting best, so it’s important to arrive on time and prepared.

Morning Charters: We like to leave before sunrise to take advantage of the early bite. Your exact departure time will be confirmed when you book.

Afternoon Charters: Plan to leave the dock around 3:00 PM, unless other arrangements are made.

Marina Facilities

Our dock is located at Adelaide Pointe Marina, which offers clean, modern restrooms. Please give yourself extra time to take care of any personal needs before departure so the boat can launch on schedule.

What to Bring

Here’s a checklist of items to pack for your trip:

  • Cooler – Bring a cooler to transport your cleaned fish home. Please leave it in your vehicle until after the trip.
  • Michigan Fishing License – All anglers 17+ must have a valid fishing license. Purchase online at: Michigan DNR eLicense
  • Food & Drinks – Pack snacks and beverages for your group. Moderate alcohol consumption is allowed.
  • Sunscreen – Lotion only, no aerosol sprays (they damage equipment and make decks slippery).
  • Sunglasses & Hat – Essential for comfort and sun protection.
  • Camera or Smartphone – Capture the memories and your trophy catches.

Seasickness Tip

If you are concerned about motion sickness, take medication before arriving at the dock. It works best when taken in advance rather than after symptoms start.

What to Wear

Weather on Lake Michigan can change quickly, so plan for comfort and flexibility:

  • Boat-Friendly Footwear: Non-marking, non-slip shoes or sandals are best.
  • Layered Clothing: Dress in layers to adjust for cool mornings, warm afternoons, or breezy conditions.
  • Rain Gear (Optional): A light waterproof jacket is a good idea if rain is in the forecast.

Expert Boater Tip: Apply sunscreen at home before arriving to ensure even coverage and avoid greasy hands while fishing.

Why Preparation Matters

The better prepared you are, the more you’ll enjoy your charter. From having the right clothing to packing snacks and drinks, a few extra minutes of planning ensures you can focus entirely on fishing, relaxing, and making memories.

At Rack Em Up Sport Fishing, our crew is here to guide you every step of the way — from casting your first line to filleting your catch at the dock.

What to Leave at Home

Some items are not permitted or practical for your charter:

  • Cannabis Products: U.S. Coast Guard regulations strictly prohibit the possession or use of marijuana or cannabis products on federally regulated waters, regardless of Michigan state law.
  • Spray Sunscreen: Aerosol sprays damage boat equipment and create slippery decks. Lotion sunscreen is required.
  • Hard Liquor or Excessive Alcohol: Moderate drinking is fine, but safety is always our top priority.

Extra Tips for a Smooth Trip

  • Arrive Early: Give yourself time to park, use the marina restrooms, and meet the crew before departure.
  • Hydrate: Bring plenty of water to stay comfortable on hot days.
  • Bring a Cooler Bag Onboard: Small soft-sided coolers are welcome for food and drinks.
  • Respect the Lake: Lake Michigan is a powerful body of water. Listen to your captain and mate for safety instructions at all times.
